Which NHL power play units change the least?
2026-27 · measured from NHL shift charts and play-by-play
New Jersey's first power-play unit was the same five players 99% of its power-play time, the most settled first unit in the league. Florida's was the same five 29% of the time, the least.
Stability is a fantasy signal in its own right: a first-unit spot on a club that keeps changing the five is a spot that can be lost without a coach ever announcing anything.
How this is measured
Same-five is the share of a club's first-unit power-play time that its single most-used five was on the ice for. A club that rotates six or seven players through five slots scores low here even if every individual looks settled.
